Screen Digestable information


Ben Keen, master of the curve and the bar chart (a no-tie market analyst) from the  venerable ‘Screen Digest’, took participants to the world of Broadband as a potential pipe for taking media into the home.   He explained that ‘U-tune’ dominates worldwide the on line video market.  They deliver tens of billions of streams per month – incredible!  But  long length on line video is increasingly dominated by broadcasters, which may be good news for professional programme makers.   We should look at the ‘TV Anywhere’ plans by US pay operators – pay once, watch on any platform – for a posible clue to the future.      All major TV sets will have an Internet connection, and this will have a dramatic effect on the way broadband is received.  Though games consoles may even be bigger than connected TVs (hybrids) at bringing broadband video into the home.   These may be  ‘Trojen horse’ for video on demand.    A complex world lies ahead!
