hi,
i really don't know if this post will be read by anyone so later anyway i'd like to submit my opinion on DVB-H failure looking at the italian experience.
people don't see mobile television such a compelling experience to pay for it..
now that plain FTA DVB-T mobile phones are coming (like in Germany) and are "good enough", people will choose them and that's all.
no more wasted bandwidth and "special gears" for airing twice the same service. goodbye DVB-H, we'll not miss you too much..
the good news here is that DVB-T is already too good to be true, but it is!

just my 2 cents, of course!

Steve said: illegal copying of (any) media are not really different from stealing books in a book store or records in a record store.

I disagree. It's still a stealing, but it's not the same. If you steel a book, the book cannot be sold to anybody else. Downloading of music/video is not illegal in all countries. Only uploading/sharing is illegal there, AFAIK.

SFN???MFN???
is it the question to reply if it is necessary to put away DVB-T and go to DVB-T2. Let's talk about something else

On Simon's comments, it's a real shame that there are differences - sometimes completely unnecessary - in basic technical issues such as SI signaling between different European countries. Why can't the "implementation groups" co-ordinate?

Is DVB actively promoting DVB-C2 beyond Europe, I'm thinking here about India and APAC?
We know that a big share of the growth will come from those fast growing markets. That may be a strong driver to accelerate the adoption of the new standard or, at least, a derivated but hopefully close version.

I'm concerned about the SI signalling services as Type 0x01, meaning that all legacy receivers will store and try and decode the service, even if they cannot decode MPEG-4. In the UK we have decided to broadcast the service type 0x19 for HD (can't remember the SD number of the top of my head) to allow the receivers to filter services if they wish.

How are they dealing with legacy receivers in France?

We do hope to be able to publish wider than the DTG membership eventually, but at this stage, given the likely clarifications up to launch, we are restricting it to DTG Members only.
